Gestational Diabetes Report A recent study by the Health Care Agency on the complications of pregnancy and childbirth found that from 2006 to 2008 gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) was the most common, serious prenatal condition, affecting some 3,100 women each year in Orange County. GDM has been shown elsewhere to increase a woman's risk of developing multiple complications such as hypertension and preeclampsia that can affect both the mother and the baby. full version of report or factsheet

Complications of Pregnancy and Childbirth in Orange County A new study by the Health Care Agency examines the risk factors and complications of pregnancy and childbirth in Orange County (OC). The study found that sixteen percent of mothers experienced a serious prenatal condition such as gestational diabetes, early onset of labor, or preeclampsia – conditions that can endanger the health of both the mother and her baby. full version of report or factsheet

2011 Business Plan Update The Health Care Agency Business Plan provides an overview of the many programs and services that are provided for children, adults, and seniors to improve the health of the community. The plan reflects the commitment of the Health Care Agency to actively measure outcomes as a way to overcome past challenges and build a solid foundation for the future. HCA Sets New Goals Last year, the Health Care Agency joined several other County departments and initiated the process for creating a balanced scorecard. The Balanced Scorecard ensures that the Agency’s services align with the County’s strategic goals. It also provides HCA with tools to measure progress and communicate the Agency’s successes.

The Health Care Agency (HCA) is a large and dynamic public agency, comprised of approximately 2,600 employees who are responsible for providing a wide range of services to protect and promote the health of the Orange County community.
Each year approximately 650 unpaid interns and volunteers are screened and placed in assignments throughout the Agency. Placements are highly individualized, based on a person's interest, skill level and supervision requirements. Internship and volunteer placements are available in specific areas of HCA such as:
