Individuals Who Kept Animal Rescue "On-Track" To Receive Special Recognition

The efforts of several individuals to successfully rescue two newborn kittens trapped in a train car will be recognized during a special presentation at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 20 at the Orange County Animal Care Center, 561 The City Drive South, Orange.

Certificates of appreciation will be presented by Orange County Animal Care Services (ACS) to the rescuers of the kittens named Santa and Fe. Among those to be recognized are Pete, John and Dave Orzechowski, who first heard the kittens' cries and started the rescue effort in motion. Also to be recognized will be Kay Bennett, who assisted in the rescue and fostering of the newborn kittens, and the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railway, which removed the kittens from the rail car. Interim ACS Director Hal Maloney said the determination of these individuals is noteworthy. "They invested their time, effort and, in the railroad's case, thousands of dollars to give these kittens a chance," said Maloney.

The process of selecting a permanent home for the kittens is well underway and it is hoped the cats will serve as an example of the many animals available for adoption in Orange County.
