Bus Shelter Unveiling Events Showcase Student Anti-Tobacco Artwork

WHAT: Two tobacco free bus shelter ad unveiling events will take place in the City of Santa Ana to showcase the winning artwork of students from McFadden Intermediate School and Orange County High School for the Arts.

The students’ designs were chosen from more than 100 entries from the Health Care Agency’s Tobacco Use Prevention Program’s (TUPP) “Tune Out Tobacco” billboard workshop project. Sponsored by TUPP’s “Back That Ash Up” youth coalition, the students’ artwork was chosen as best in countering the positive portrayal of tobacco in movies, television, magazines and store advertising.

WHEN & WHERE: Monday, July 12 at 10 a.m. at the bus shelter located on the corner of Warner Ave. and Raitt St. in front of Adams Park in Santa Ana.

Tuesday, July 13 at 11 a.m. at the bus shelter located on the corner of Ross St. and Santa Ana Blvd. in Santa Ana.

WHO:  Artwork winners Libier Hernandez and Chelsea Clark, local city dignitaries, students, administrators from McFadden Intermediate School and Orange County High School for the Arts, and local community members will be on hand to support the unveiling of the bus shelter ads.

WHY: The tobacco industry spends $16 million each day (or $11,000 a minute) on advertising and special promotions.  To counter the negative iimpact of this huge industry marketing campaign, the TUPP program’s goal is to reduce tobacco use and exposure to environmental tobacco smoke in Orange County by working with local community organizations, schools and committed individuals.  TUPP provides services to Orange County residents through its youth, community service and public policy programs.  For more information, please call the TUPP program at  (714) 541-1444.
