Specialized Public Health Nursing
Public Health Nursing

Specialized Public Health Nursing provides services to targeted high risk populations of children in foster care and to pregnant women with histories of substance abuse and/or HIV infection.

CALWorks Public Health Nursing

CALWorks Public Health Nurses provide assessment of medical barriers, health education, and health resource development to CalWorks clients and their families upon referral from Social Service Agency staff. Referrals can also come via multi-disciplinary meetings held to assist the client to self-sufficiency by examining present barriers to their active participation.

Child Abuse Services Team (Cast)

A county public-private partnership of Orange County’s Social Services Agency, Health Care Agency, and the District Attorney’s Office and the non-profit Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center, formed to decrease the trauma for abused children and their families by offering a coordinated child-friendly approach to child abuse investigations. CAST conducts forensic interviews and forensic medical examinations, provides expert legal testimony, and supports victims and non-offending family members with mental health crisis intervention services and voluntary child advocacy services.
 

Foster Care Public Health Nursing

Public Health nurses provide nursing consultation, education, and coordination of care services to social workers and substitute care providers to ensure that all children in the child welfare system receive regular, preventative health care and appropriate follow-up for identified medical conditions.

Perinatal Substance Abuse Service Initiative/Assessment and Coordination Team (PSASI/ACT)

Public Health nurses provide home visitation and intensive intervention services to pregnant women with histories of substance abuse and their families throughout pregnancy and up to 6-12 months after delivery. Program goals are to ensure appropriate perinatal care, optimize the health of newborn, and support recovery and stable living environments.

Preventive Health Care for Adults (PHCA) (Senior Services)

Preventive Health Care for Adults (PHCA) services are provided by Public Health Nurses at countywide senior sites. All individuals 50 years and older are eligible with no share of cost.

Senior Health Outreach & Prevention Program (SHOPP)

The Senior Health Outreach & Prevention Program (SHOPP), funded by Tobacco Settlement Revenue, is a collaborative effort between the County of Orange Public Health and Behavioral Health Services. SHOPP provides community outreach and home visitation to low income, uninsured, or underserved adults with an unmet healthcare need. Priority is given to frail older adults.
