Hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) is a common illness caused by viruses in the enterovirus group, especially coxsackievirus. It usually affects infants and children younger than five years of age.
HFMD is NOT reportable in Orange County, unless associated with an outbreak. Outbreaks should be reported immediately by phone (714-834-8180) to OCHCA Epidemiology. Information and resources for schools and child cares with HFMD are available on the OCHCA Epidemiology School webpage .
