Jynneos vaccine, the vaccine to prevent Mpox, is now commercially available. Individuals seeking Jynneos vaccine should speak to their healthcare provider or local pharmacy about availability. Federal Medicaid and Medicare programs cover Jynneos vaccine. Those with private insurance should ask their insurer about coverage and availability.
Individuals from the following groups are at increased risk for mpox and are strongly recommended to receive the Mpox (JYNNEOS) vaccine:
- Any man or trans person who has sex with men or trans persons
- People who are eligible for HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP)
- Anyone living with HIV, particularly those with a CD4 count <350/mm3, an unsuppressed HIV viral load, or an opportunistic infection
- People who have had direct skin-to-skin contact with one or more people AND who know others in their community that have had Mpox infection
- People who have been diagnosed with a bacterial sexually transmitted disease (STD) (e.g., chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis) in the past 3 months
- Sex workers
- Sexual partners of people with the above risks
- People who anticipate experiencing the above risks, including individuals with multiple sex partners
- Health Care Workers who are likely to collect laboratory specimens from persons with mpox (e.g., persons working in sexual health clinics or clinical settings that serve at risk populations)
What if I am uninsured, how can I get vaccinated with the Mpox (Jynneos) vaccine?
Orange County Health Care Agency (HCA) has limited supply vaccine for uninsured individuals but the supply will be expiring over the next several months. If you don't have a health care provider call HCA's Health Referral Line at (800) 564-8448 and they can help connect you to a provider.
