About Pulmonary Disease Services (Tuberculosis Control)

Healthcare providers and laboratories are required to report confirmed or suspected active TB disease in an Orange County resident to Orange County TB Control within one (1) working day. 

Orange County Tuberculosis (TB) Control also has a full-service clinic in Santa Ana for TB screening, diagnosis, and treatment. 

TB and COVID-19

California healthcare providers have reported delays in diagnosis and treatment of TB disease and patients having concurrent TB disease and COVID-19. Click here for more information on what to do.

TB Control Services

HCA Orange County TB Control offers evaluation and treatment of individuals with active or suspected active TB disease.

Orange County TB Control offers TB screening services (TB tests, chest x-rays, symptom check, and physician evaluation, when appropriate) to residents of Orange County who meet the following criteria: 

  1. Persons with 2 or more TB symptoms, such as cough, coughing up blood, fever, night sweats, unexplained weight loss 
  2. Persons with abnormal chest x-rays consistent with active TB disease 
  3. Persons in contact with an active TB disease case 
  4. Newly arriving refugees 
  5. Newly arriving immigrants required by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) / Division of Global Migration and Quarantine (DGMQ) to be evaluated for TB 
  6. Persons with HIV/AIDS 
  7. Clients of shelters 
  8. Clients of residential detoxification centers, and drug and alcohol treatment centers

TB screening services are NOT offered to individuals needing work or school clearances, including but not limited to: students, teachers, school volunteers, certified employees (e.g., janitors), health care workers, childcare workers, and foster parents. Persons needing TB screening for work or school clearances should contact their private physician, a neighborhood medical clinic, or a clinic associated with a pharmacy.

HCA Orange County TB Control offers treatment for latent TB infection (LTBI) to residents of Orange County who are at are at highest risk for progression from TB infection to active TB disease, as follows: 

  1. Persons in contact with an active TB disease case 
  2. Persons with documentation of a TB test that has gone from negative to positive within the last 2 years 
  3. Newly arriving refugees 
  4. Newly arriving immigrants required by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) / Division of Global Migration and Quarantine (DGMQ) to be evaluated for TB 
  5. Persons with HIV/AIDS 
  6. Foreign-born persons resident in the United States less than 2 years
