How do I get tested for lead?
Ask your healthcare provider for a blood lead test if you have health insurance. Some employers also offer periodic testing for employees who are exposed to lead on the job.
Do NOT use filter paper testing for blood leaf testing.
- Children under 6 years of age who have been tested using the filter paper method should be re-tested with another screening using EITHER capillary blood and an FDA-approved Point of Care testing device OR capillary or venous blood sent to a laboratory. Venous samples should be obtained if any of the blood lead result using any blood screening methods is 3.5 mcg/dL or above.
