(Santa Ana, CA) – The Orange County (OC) Equity Map, a public-private partnership between AdvanceOC, the Orange County Board of Supervisors (Board), and the OC Health Care Agency (HCA) is recognized by the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) with a Sustainability Award in the category of Equity.
The OC Equity Map is recognized as a trailblazing tool paving the way the County of Orange (County) fosters sustainable community planning and resource allocation. In 2020, AdvanceOC collaborated with the Board and the HCA helping to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Orange County families and communities. The OC Equity Map was launched on July 14, 2021, under the leadership of the COVID-19 Ad Hoc Committee, led by Supervisors Andrew Do and Doug Chaffee.
The interactive map visualizes census tracts and displays the scores from the Social Progress Index (SPI), Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Health Indicators, and population demographic data. The map can also overlay additional information that can be customized for a variety of different uses.

(Santa Ana, CA) – In response to rising COVID-19 cases and hospitalization trends throughout the U.S., combined with easing public health restrictions for travel and upcoming holidays leading to larger gatherings, the OC Health Care Agency strongly advises Orange County residents and visitors to take preventative measures to reduce their risk of getting sick or hospitalized from COVID-19, including testing, masking, and getting vaccinated.
Since April 18, 2022, data has shown an increase in the seven-day average COVID-19 case rate in Orange County, from 4.8 to 10.5 per 100,000 people, and daily average cases, from 155 to 339. Hospitalizations have also increased from 60 to 117 people (including 10 pediatric), with 17 people in the ICU (2 pediatric). The majority of cases are among people under age 65.
“We must come together as a community to help support one another and reduce the risk of transmission, especially to those who may be at higher risk or unknowingly be at risk of getting infected,” says Dr. Regina Chinsio-Kwong, County Health Officer. “Think about your elderly grandparent, coworker, healthcare worker, restaurant server, flight attendant, and all the other people you may come into contact with each day. Many of them can do their part to protect themselves but they also depend on us to do what we can to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. This means staying home if you feel sick, getting an FDA-authorized COVID-19 test if you experience symptoms or exposure, wearing a mask in crowded indoor spaces and as required or recommended by State and CDC guidance, and getting all recommended primary and booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccine when you are eligible.”
Additional ways to prevent COVID-19 include washing and sanitizing hands frequently, keeping a safe physical distance from others to reduce exposure, increasing indoor ventilation by opening doors and windows to reduce trapped virus particles, and following the State’s isolation and quarantine guidance if you test positive for or are exposed to someone with COVID-19. The CDC also recommends that everyone aged 2 and older – including passengers and workers – properly wear a well-fitting mask or respirator over the nose and mouth in indoor areas of public transportation and transportation hubs.

“This is a great opportunity for individuals to clean out their medicine cabinets while helping to safeguard the health and well-being of those they love,” said Dr. Veronica Kelley, Chief of the HCA’s Mental Health and Recovery Services. “Pharmaceutical drugs can be just as dangerous as street drugs when taken without a prescription or a doctor’s supervision. The opioid crisis is nationwide and participating in events like National Take Back Day makes an impact.”
This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. The National Take Back Event supports our commitment to the safety and health of our local community, encouraging the public to remove unneeded medications from homes as a measure to prevent medication misuse and opioid addiction from ever starting.

(Santa Ana, CA) – On March 30, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued updated recommendations for a second booster dose of the Moderna (SpikeVax) and Pfizer (Comirnaty) COVID-19 vaccine in certain individuals. The second booster dose is expected to be available throughout Orange County, including the OC Health Care Agency’s mobile COVID-19 clinics.
Dosage for the second booster will be the same as the first booster. The CDC’s updated guidance expands eligibility for a second booster dose of Moderna or Pfizer vaccine to be administered at least 4 months after the first booster dose for the following individuals:
People ages 50 years and older
People ages 12-49 years who are moderately or severely immunocompromised
People ages 18-49 years who received the Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine for their primary series and booster dose
“The second booster dose is intended to further reduce the risk of severe disease in certain people, including those who are elderly or immunocompromised,” says Dr. Regina Chinsio-Kwong, County Health Officer. “We want to encourage anyone who is eligible to get their second booster dose and all other approved doses of a COVID-19 vaccine to do so. COVID-19 Quarantine and Isolation Calculator
The CDC recently created a COVID-19 Quarantine and Isolation Calculator to help people determine whether they need to isolate, quarantine, or take other prevention steps to prevent spreading COVID-19. The tool is now available on the OC Health Care Agency’s COVID-19 website at ochealthinfo.com/covid.
Please note that this tool is not intended for people with COVID-19 who are moderately or severely ill or those who have a weakened immune system (immunocompromised)—they should talk to their doctor about when to end isolation.
This tool also does not apply to cases and close contacts identified in certain settings. Parents with children in K-12 schools or early care and education (ECE) programs should consult the program administrator for specific isolation and quarantine guidance in their school or ECE setting. Throughout Orange County, rates of SARS-CoV-2 infection appear to be leveling off after declining for several weeks. The Omicron BA.2 sub-variant has been increasing in prevalence as cases decline.
Yesterday, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) released a Health Alert (CAHAN) providing updated information on the status of therapeutics for COVID-19 disease. The key point of this CAHAN is that there is no longer limited supply of therapeutic treatments in most locations.
(Santa Ana, CA) – The OC Health Care Agency, Office of Suicide Prevention announces the launch of a data dashboard reporting Orange County deaths by suicide for the purpose of raising community awareness and for helping to inform prevention initiatives.
The interactive data dashboard will allow users to search, sort and view data, charts, and maps by filtering the suicide self-harm and deaths data over time by age, gender, race, method of suicide and place of death. Users can view data in multiple perspectives which helps broaden the scope of inquiry as well as assist in strategic planning for suicide prevention efforts in Orange County. The information, which is sourced through the California Comprehensive Death File, will be updated monthly, and includes demographic data, geography and means of suicide.
Data collection and analysis efforts are key strategic missions for the Community Suicide Prevention Initiative (CSPI), which was funded by OC Board of Supervisors in March of 2020.
“Suicide prevention is most effective when everyone steps up and takes action,” said First District Supervisor Andrew Do, who advocated for the creation of the Office of Suicide Prevention in 2020. “The interactive data dashboard will be a powerful tool for public health officials, researchers, and community organizations to collaborate on data-informed prevention initiatives. It will also help support where the County places specific efforts and resources towards suicide prevention.”
While the suicide data dashboard can be viewed by interested community members, the Office of Suicide Prevention anticipates that key users will primarily be community leaders, researchers, policymakers, mental health providers and other service providers. The dashboard was beta tested with CSPI members at several stages of development; giving direct access to the platform and then surveying participants on their experience to refine and evolve the interface. The Behavioral Health Advisory Board, including representation from the mental health recovery and substance use disorders communities, was also part of the initial launch providing feedback on recommended improvements.
“Having access to this critical resource will greatly enhance our efforts to address suicide prevention,” says Fifth District Supervisor Lisa Bartlett who championed the creation of the Office of Suicide Prevention and is Vice Chair of the Mental Health Ad Hoc Committee. “We are well aware that stigma is a significant barrier impacting people’s willingness to access mental health treatment, often resulting in devastating consequences sometimes including suicide. Through this data resource, we can further increase community awareness and support the community with stigma-reduction and other prevention efforts related to mental illness and suicide.”
“We are encouraged by this new data dashboard and look forward to building new partnerships to support the great work already underway in the Office of Suicide Prevention,” says Dr. Veronica Kelley, Chief of HCA’s Mental Health and Recovery Services division which oversees the new office. “It will help strengthen our collaborations with our partners including law enforcement, OC Coroner, first responders, hospitals, cities and the community at large by fostering conversations and leveraging each other’s strengths and resources to address prevention and intervention efforts collectively.”
“Understanding the data and trends can provide the CSPI with a data-driven approach to strategic planning and implementing our suicide prevention, intervention and postvention efforts in the community.” says Dr. Bhuvana Rao, Division Manager of the Office of Suicide Prevention. “By knowing which groups are more at risk for suicide, we are better able to identify the needs and target our efforts more appropriately to specific groups.”

Cơ Quan Y Tế Quận Cam, Văn Phòng Ngăn Ngừa Tự Sát công bố phát động bảng phân tích dữ kiện con số thiệt mạng vì tự vẫn tại Quận Cam nhằm mục đích gia tăng sự hiểu biết của cộng đồng và sự hiểu biết về những động thái để giúp ngăn ngừa.
Bảng phân tích dữ kiện có tác động hỗ tương sẽ giúp những người sử dụng tìm kiếm, phân loại và xem xét dữ kiện, đồ biểu, và bản đồ qua việc thanh lọc các dữ kiện tự hại và tử vong theo thời gian qua sự phân loại tuổi tác, giới tính, chủng tộc, phương thức tự vẫn và nơi tử vong.
